SANNoise.org has been formed by a couple of concerned residents that would like the Airport Authority to demonstrate some respect for the communities impacted by the planned growth of Lindbergh Field. We have all seen the increased number of flights arriving and departing - this is only the beginning. Based on the Airport's forecast and full recovery of flights since 9/11, we can expect the number of flights impacting our lives to reach an intolerable level.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE If you look at the 'rush hour' flights departing in the early morning and spread that traffic throughout the operating hours of 6:30 am to 11:30 pm, that is what is projected in the new plan. The airport will grow to this level unless we all organize.
ITS ALREADY EVIDENT A further disturbing trend is the number of off-course flights that depart to the west. The agreed departure paths are 275 degrees and 290 degrees until the aircraft is 1.5 miles offshore. The Airport Authority readily admits that they have no control after the flight leaves the ground - the FAA has sole responsibility and authority for the flight path. As the number of departures increases to the capacity point, the FAA then chooses to direct more flights off the departure course to increase separation. There is no debate, this is happening to our detriment.
IF YOU'RE NOT NOW IN THE FLIGHT PATH, YOU MAY SOON BE UNDER THE PLANES This separation of flights will ultimately lead to more and more planes further off the agreed departure paths. The recent forecast prepared by the Airport Authority had no recognition of the capacity limitations that should be imposed by these off course departures. Its as though the CalTrans freeway engineer was calculating the capacity of the freeway on ramps and didn't recognize that the drivers were driving down the sidewalks and breakdown lanes!
